On November 16th for the first time electronic physicians IDs will be issued, which comply with the recent common specification "Health Professional Card V2.09". This HPC specification has been jointly developed and was agreed by the German Physicians, Dentists, Psychotherapists and Pharmacists represented by their National Professional Associations (State Boards of Registration).
Electronic Health Professional Cards are foreseen in the German legislation (Social Code V) ruling the issuing process and the usage of the new German electronic health card. The cards are designed as tools to safe-guard the secure and trustworthy access to personal medical data. The HPC is one corner stone of the upcoming German eHealth infrastructure, which has been designed since 2003 in the bIT4health project funded by the Federal Ministry for Health and Social Security and related projects. Based on the finally consented "solution architecture" to be supported by the gematik mbH and the Federal Ministry for Health and Social Security the roll-out will start in 2006 and last over the next decade.
Karl Josef Laumann, the Minister for Work, Health and Social Issues of the State of Northrhine-Westphalia and together with five Presidents of State Medical Boards at the Länder level will hand over those first physicians eIDs to medical doctors from some of the candidate pilot regions for the electronic health card, i.e. Bochum-Essen, Trier, Löbau-Zittau and Flensburg. The event will take place on Wednesday, 16. November at 10:30 hrs at the joint booth of the State ofNorth Rhine-Westphalia (hall 3, stand C 80).
The issuing of the electronic Health Professional Cards is just one element of many activities on this years MEDICA, which are closely related to the upcoming new German electronic health card. In co-operation with the project MEDICA MEDIA a special Route "Electronic Health Card and Health Professional Cards" has been set-up to provide guidance to all visitors of the MEDICA. A signpost and multiple indicative signs throughout the fairground will guide the MEICA visitors to events and exhibitors offering products and services related to the German electronic health card (eHC) and the Health Professional Cards (eHPC). MEDICAMEDIA has furthermore prepared a booklet compiling all essential events and exhibitors for the topics eHC and eHPC and providing the guidance for the "Route".
Particular solutions, applications and infrastructural elements have been additionally assembled in the MEDICAMEDIA demonstration area (hall 17 C 78) providing demonstrations of patient interactive terminals, card readers and interfaces, electronic health records and other health related applications. This area is dedicated to doctors, medical staff and all other persons interested in the recent State of the Art on the eHealth infrastructure and more particularly the electronic health cards in Germany.
